Read it and Leap!
an online workshop for dance educators
Tuesday September 27 @ 8pm CST on Zoom
Taught by Jen Cleary, founder of Soul Centered Movement
As a dance educator you want your students to develop a deep love and appreciation for dance while they learn the infinite possibilities of movement their bodies contain.
But let's face it, you also want them to listen and follow directions.
One of the best ways to keep kids excited and engaged as they learn foundational dance concepts and skills is to meet them on their level and use something they love.
And kids. love. stories.
What if there was something that would guarantee your early childhood dance classes would be magically imaginative AND help you teach foundational skills to engaged students?
Enter: READ it and LEAP!
10+ years ago I had an idea for a class that combined picture books with creative dance. It was a hit. I taught it in studios, in after school programs, at festivals, at bookstores and in libraries.
Picture books are perfect for creating unique and meaningful movement experiences. Students connect more deeply to the story by experiencing it in their body. And they connect more deeply to the dance because of the context of the story.
Perfect match.
In this 2 hour workshop* you'll learn my simple formula for turning (almost) any picture book into a dance experience your students will LOVE!
After learning the formula, we'll practice together so you'll feel confident that you can quickly identify the elements of a picture book that make amazing dance/movement activities.
As an added bonus, I'll teach my Book Boogie warmup - the perfect way to get kids' brains and bodies attentive and ready for dancing.
The workshop will end with a "Book Boogie" Q&A session, where you can pick my brain about my 10+ years of teaching Storytime Dance classes and how to use books in your classroom.
*Replay of the workshop will be available until October 15, 2022.
